Health Services Health Screenings

Mandatory Screening Programs are conducted by the School Nurse in accordance with State Law and the Texas Education Agency recommendations in each program. Parents/guardians are contacted by the school nurse with a referral letter that is sent home with the student should a problem be identified. The child's physician should return a report to the school nurse within 30 days.


VISION AND HEARING SCREENING:
Students are screened annually at the beginning of the year. New students are screened upon admittance to the school.

DENTAL SCREENING: 
Students are screened annually at the beginning of the year. New students are screened upon admittance to the school.

ACANTHOSIS NIGRICANS SCREENING:
Students are screened annually at the beginning of the year for a "skin marker" around the neck resulting from a higher concentration of insulin in the bloodstream, which creates a potential risk for the development of Type 1 Diabetes. The weight and blood pressure will be taken on those students identified in the program. New students are screened upon admittance to the school.

Acanthosis Nigricans Screening Information

GROWTH AND ASSESSMENT:
Students are screened annually at the beginning of the year. New students are screened upon admittance to the school.

SCOLIOSIS:
Students are screened annually at the beginning of the year in grades 6 & 9. Scoliosis screening checks the curvature of a child's spine. Any abnormality or deviation is referred to a doctor for further evaluation.
