Rachel's Challenge Community Event, Oct. 24th @ 6:30pm!

posted Oct 12, 2017, 8:28 AM by Yvette Perez   [ updated Oct 12, 2017, 8:28 AM ]

The Rachel's Challenge Community Event exists to equip and inspire individuals to replace acts of violence, bullying, and negativity with acts of respect, kindness, and compassion. Rachel's Challenge is based on the life and writings of Rachel Joy Scott who was the first victim of the Columbine school shootings in 1999. Rachel's inspiring story provides a simple, yet powerful example on how small acts of kindness and acceptance motivate us to consider our relationships with the people we come in contact with every day. Rachel's Challenge renews our hope that our life has meaning and purpose. Rachel's story gives us permission to start our own chain reaction of kindness and compassion, which positively affects the climate in our schools and communities.

Please join us on Tuesday, October 24th at 6:30pm in the John. H Harrell auditorium to be part of starting this chain reaction of kindness!
RECOMMENDED AUDIENCE: 7TH GRADE AND UP.

National Principal's Month!

Mr. Escamilla is a great leadership example for Morales Junior High School faculty and students. Even though it is his first year as a Principal, he is quickly becoming one of the best Administrators in UCISD.  He has worked his way up through the ranks, from teacher to Principal and remembers how it was for him in those positions.  This gives him the ability to understand issues, be supportive, and empathetic, a trait sometimes missing from others.  He is an amazing listener and very patient.  He understands the bigger picture, and still remains both campus driven and student focused.  Finally, he has an insatiable desire to continue learning and seeking innovative ways to better himself.  He is an example of what being an educator is really all about.

The following letter is from Jeanette Ball, Ph.D., Superintendent of Schools, to share one of our high school students passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 8th. Our sincere condolences and thoughts go out the family and friends of our student. During this time as our school community processes the tragic news and copes with grief, the school district will offer counseling support services to all of our students, staff, parents, and community. A Crisis Management Team from San Antonio will be on the Uvalde High School campus on Friday, September 8th to offer counseling for families from 9am-3pm.  If any of our parents or community members are in need of counseling they are encouraged to contact our family specialists at 830-278-6655:

Niki Henderson at nhenderson6353@uvaldecisd.net ext. 5510
Nikki Rodriguez at nrodriguez6375@uvaldecisd.net ext. 6112
Barbara Chase at bchase8526@uvaldecisd.net ext. 5418

This is a difficult time for everyone, however, the gentle support all school community members give to each other during this time is the first step in healing. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me, your campus principal or your child’s school counselor.

With sympathy, love and gratitude,

Jeanette Ball, Ph.D.
